In my experience, I’ve lived and worked in a lot of places that emphasize the individual over the team or vice versa to a fault. I’m ready to strike a balance somewhere in between: let’s honor one another as individuals by listening and learning about each other without judgement. Let’s recognize one another’s strengths and then share our own without an expectation of a future return.
Practically, here’s an idea to start considering this concept. Grab your notebook, journal, markers, or whatever favorite musing tools you might use. Think about a person you spend a lot of time with. Think of something they give to you freely that doesn’t cost money. Think about something you give them that doesn’t cost money, either. How does it make you feel to receive from them? How does it make you feel to give to them? How do you feel when you reflect on this experience?
Please, share your thoughts! Let’s get the dialogue rolling!
